Slavery
One of the causes of the Civil War was slavery, slavery was for farmers mostly who needed help with work on there farm. Slavery was mostly in the South. Most North states did not agree with slavery, which made slavery one of the main reasons for the Civil War. Southerners believed Slavery was needed however people from the North disagreed, they thought slaves were more of a want and a unnecessary one, while farmers strongly believed slaves were absolutely needed to help with work. Someone who affected a change in slavery was Abraham Lincoln who disagreed with slaves and believed that we should not use violence , even though he didn't believe slaves were equal to us he still believed they had rights. A event that definitely changed slavery was Dred Scotts case against the government after his owner died he was given to the wife of his owner who took him over the border and he believed that meant he should be freed however he was not but he started a lot from that one case.
States Rights
Another cause of the civil war was states right. This was basically states wanted to make there own decisions about issues like slavery. The main people who wanted state rights were Southerners. This caused problems because people no longer saw them self as Americans. A person who had a affect on this was Lincoln he wanted too free slaves in ALL states, the south thought this gave the nation too much power. One event that also effected this was South Carolina seceded from the union when Lincoln became president.
