Summary of the Reconstruction
The Reconstruction was the exact aftermath of the Civil War. The Reconstruction was a HUGE part of American history. As we all know the slaves were set free but that didn't really cause effect then besides that it was one of the main reasons of the Civil War, But after they were set free everyone was to busy fighting to see what they did , imagine up to 4 million people maybe more just wandering around not knowing what to do, they just got there lives back. Also everyone just finish fighting so there had to be damage from the war not only to property and stuff but to our country. Also blacks were still treated like slaves.
Andrew Johnson
Andrew Jackson was a part of the reconstruction , because he became president when Abraham Lincoln died. He didn't believe in slavery but he also didn't think blacks didn't have equal rights with us.
Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was related to the Reconstruction because he was kinda the one who started the war. His wish to make Slavery go away and make blacks equal to us didn't work out so well. The reconstruction was nothing like he thought it would be.
Booth Shooting
The booth shooting was at Ford theater in Washington D.C. Lincoln was shot while watching the comedy "Our American Cousin" while he was watching it one of the actors ( John Booth) sneaked up behind him and shot him he was injured very bad and died the next day at a hospital across the road.
Black Codes
Southern legislatures begin drafting "Black Codes" to re-establish white supremacy. It basically made it so blacks could become slaves to the whites again. Blacks were being forced to go back on to plantations. It was so bad that if the blacks saw a white on a sidewalk they had to go off the side walk.
